What SQE1 Question Banks and Mocks Cost in 2026: Prices, Free Tiers and Formats Compared
If you are sitting SQE1 in January 2027, you are probably shopping for practice now: a question bank, some full mocks, or both. Pricing models differ so much that a like-for-like comparison is hard. This page puts the standalone options side by side, with every price taken from the provider's own site on 30 September 2026.
The short answer
- Most standalone SQE1 question banks we checked cost about £60 to £500 to cover the January 2027 sitting, depending on how they charge (one-off, fixed term or monthly). Plans that add tutoring can cost more. Courses that include a bank ranged from £650 for a short exam-preparation course to £5,900.
- Standalone mocks work out at roughly £25 to £40 per full paper (our arithmetic from the stated prices). Only a few providers' pages say their mocks already use the January 2027 format of 170 questions per paper (two sessions of 85). Most still describe 180.
- Start free. The SRA publishes 220 sample questions, and several providers offer free mocks or trials. Use those before you pay for anything.
We sell two of the products in this market, so read our declaration below. Our online question bank is open, and 250 Solon Chambers questions are free. Try 10 free questions to see the style.
How we checked, and our interest
We visited each provider's own website on 30 September 2026 and recorded the price, access period, question or mock count, format, free tier and refund terms exactly as the provider states them. We did not log in, sign up or buy anything. Each figure links to the page we used.
Some rules we followed:
- "Not stated" means we could not find it on the provider's public pages. It does not mean the provider doesn't offer it.
- Question counts are the provider's own claims. We have not counted anyone's questions.
- "Our cost to cover Oct to Jan" is our arithmetic, not the provider's. It assumes you start on 1 October 2026 and need access until your FLK2 sitting (18 to 22 January 2027), which is just under four months.
- Prices change. Check the provider's page before you pay.
Declaration of interest: Solon Prep sells Solon Chambers (a question bank) and Solon Court (a set of full mocks). Neither is on sale yet. Both appear in the tables below, labelled as ours. If you think we have got something wrong, see the right of reply at the end.
For the exam fees themselves, the SRA charges £2,006 for SQE1 (£1,003 per FLK) for assessments from September 2026 onwards (SRA, SQE cost, checked 30 September 2026). Our SQE cost guide covers those in more detail.

A 180-question mock is still useful practice for January. You can adapt it: time each 85-question block at 2 hours 33 minutes and set the spare questions aside. Our article on SQE1 mock exams for January 2027 explains how, and how to read a mock score.
Courses with a bank included
If you want teaching as well as practice, most full courses include a question bank and mocks. Prices checked 30 September 2026.
- BARBRI SQE1 Prep: £2,999 to £3,299, with 3,000+ practice questions stated.
- QLTS School: £1,990, £2,490 or £2,990. The two higher tiers include 30 mocks of 90 questions; Basic includes 10. Access covers the next two consecutive sittings or until you pass, whichever comes first.
- BPP: SQE1 Preparation from £5,900; a self-study version is from £4,200. Question count not stated.
- University of Law: SQE1 Preparation Course online from £5,250. Its shorter SQE1 Exam Preparation Course is £650 and states over 150 practice questions in its app.
- College of Legal Practice: SQE1 preparation course £2,200.
- Future Solicitor: £297 a month excluding VAT (shown as a September discount), with 4,700+ questions and eleven full mocks stated.
Some course providers publish pass rates. These are provider-reported and measured on different bases. QLTS reports 94% among candidates who completed 25 or more of its mocks and reported their results for July 2023 (provider-reported). BARBRI reports 59% for July 2026 among students who completed at least 90% of its course (provider-reported). The SRA's own figure for July 2026 was 42% of the 6,260 candidates who sat both FLKs (SRA July 2026 statistical report, published 29 September 2026). Provider figures cover selected groups, so they can't be compared with each other or with the SRA's overall figure, and we don't use them to rank anyone. More on the official figures is on our SQE pass rates page.
Free options worth using first
Before paying for anything, you can get a good amount of practice free:
- The SRA's own sample questions. There are 220: 90 original samples and 130 pre-tested questions that have been used in real SQE1 assessments, published with performance data (SRA sample questions). They are written by the examiner, so they show the real style. The SRA notes they are not designed to be a full mock exam.
- FQPS: one full FLK1 and one full FLK2 mock in the 2 × 85 format, with a free account and no card (FQPS).
- QLTS School: two free 50-question mocks, one per FLK (QLTS).
- Free tiers and trials: SQE1 Prep's free account, SQEMCQ's free question bank, Law Drills' 30 credits, Kinnu's 7-day trial and Future Solicitor's trial (5 mini mocks, 168 questions) all let you judge the style before paying.
- Solon Prep: 250 Solon Chambers questions and a 10-question calibration test are free now, and Mock 4 Session 1 of Solon Court will be free when it is published. Meanwhile, you can look at our SQE1 practice questions page.
250 Solon Chambers questions free now, Mock 4 Session 1 to follow
Our question bank is open. Free access includes 250 practice questions with worked solutions and a 10-question calibration test. Mock 4 Session 1 in the January 2027 format will be free when it is published.
What the price doesn't tell you
Quality. A price table can't tell you whether questions are accurate or pitched at the right level. We tested free questions from several providers against the SRA's samples in a separate SQE1 question bank comparison, with the method set out here. Candidates often say that some practice questions feel easier than the real exam, so it is worth checking a sample against the SRA's 130 pre-tested questions before you commit.
Whether every option is explained. Many candidates learn most from understanding why each wrong answer is wrong. Several provider pages we checked promise "detailed explanations" without saying whether each wrong option is covered. BARBRI Boost's page states that its answers include why the wrong option wasn't correct. For most others, it is not stated, so check a free sample.
When access ends. Access runs from 30 days (SQE1 Prep's one-month pass) to lifetime, with fixed end dates in between (Law Drills to 31 January 2027, BARBRI Boost until after your exam, OUP for 12 months). If you might resit, or defer to July 2027, the end date matters as much as the price.
Subscriptions that run past January. Monthly plans are easy to forget once the exam is over. If you choose one, note the date you need to cancel.
Overlap. If your course already gives you thousands of questions, another large bank may add less than a set of mocks from a different writer.
Choosing by situation
Self-funding, first attempt. Work through the SRA's 220 samples and at least one free full mock first. Then compare a one-off bank against a mock pack, and check the access end date covers any resit.
Sponsored or on a course, looking for a top-up. Your course bank probably covers volume. Mocks from a different provider give you questions written in another style, which helps you avoid getting used to one writer's patterns.
Resitting one FLK. Some providers price by FLK: Law Drills (£115 for one FLK to January), OUP (£225 per assessment), Revise SQE (£40 per online mock) and TheOneHundred (£79.98 for three mocks on one FLK). Others charge the same for both.
Qualified abroad. You may know the principles but not the English rules and procedure, so explanations that teach the rule matter more than volume. Judge them on free samples first.
Whatever you choose, how you review your mistakes matters as much as which bank you buy. We describe how we write and check our own questions in how we write SQE1 practice questions.
Where Solon fits, and where it doesn't
What we offer. Solon Chambers has about 2,500 SQE1 practice questions with worked solutions, 250 of them free. Solon Court is our mock platform for the January 2027 format (170 questions per paper, 2 × 85), with Mock 4 Session 1 to be free when it is published. Full paid access goes on sale soon. If you own one of our books, such as our FLK1 or FLK2 mock exam papers, each book unlocks its own questions in the bank.
What we don't offer, or can't show you yet:
- Paid access isn't on sale yet. The bank is open with 250 free questions; full paid access goes on sale soon. Try 10 free questions.
- No app and no flashcards. SQE1 Prep and Kinnu, for example, list both.
- We are a new brand, without the track record of providers that have been running since SQE1 began.
- We have no pass-rate data, and we won't publish any until we have results we can verify.
If you want a large bank with an app, spaced repetition or a tutor, other options above may suit you better.
FAQ
How much does an SQE1 question bank cost?
On the providers' own sites on 30 September 2026, most standalone SQE1 question banks cost about £60 to £500 to cover the January 2027 sitting, depending on whether they charge once, for a fixed term or monthly. Plans that add tutoring can cost more, and courses that include a bank ranged from £650 to £5,900.
Are there free SQE1 practice questions?
Yes. The SRA publishes 220 free sample questions, including 130 that were used in real assessments. FQPS offers two free full mocks and QLTS School offers two free 50-question mocks. Several banks have free tiers or trials.
Which SQE1 mocks use the January 2027 format?
On 30 September 2026, FQPS and SQE1 Prep stated that their mocks use two sessions of 85 questions. Revise SQE said its updated practice books will be available in early November. Most other mocks we checked still describe 180 questions per paper, or use 90-question mocks. Solon Court, which is now open, uses the 170-question format.
Is a 180-question mock still useful for January 2027?
Yes, as practice. Time each 85-question block at 2 hours 33 minutes and set the spare questions aside. Bear in mind that from January 2027 each session covers a fixed group of subjects, which an older mock won't copy.
Do I need a full course, or is a question bank enough?
It depends on how well you already know the law. A question bank tests and reinforces knowledge; it does not teach a subject from scratch. Candidates who already have study material often add a bank or mocks rather than a second course.
