SQE1 pass rates, sitting by sitting

A faithful view of the regulator’s published figures, separating FLK1, FLK2 and overall SQE1 results for all reported candidates and first attempts.

Updated 30 September 2026

How to read the figures

FLK1 and FLK2 are separate assessments and each must be passed. “SQE1 overall” is therefore not an average of the two displayed percentages: it is the proportion who passed both FLK assessments.

Since January 2024 a pass mark of 300 is a scaled score, not 60% correct. Each score is converted to a 0–500 scale with the pass point fixed at 300; scaling permits comparison across papers of differing difficulty. Read the official marking policy and results guidance.

Up to July 2023, pass marks were raw percentages. From January 2024, the pass mark has been a scaled score of 300. From January 2025, the SRA reports graded candidates, excluding anyone who used an attempt but did not sit. This series is close to, but not exactly, like-for-like. See each linked sitting report and its publication date in the table below.

Published pass percentages are rounded to whole numbers. They should not be used to reverse-engineer candidate pass counts.

Official sitting data

Candidate counts are shown as FLK1 / FLK2 / SQE1 overall (those who sat both papers). From January 2025, the denominator excludes candidates recorded as not sitting. Each sitting links to its official report and publication date.

Notes on the official record

January 2024: the sitting’s statistical page reports 5,580 first-attempt SQE1 candidates, while the later 2023/24 annual report reports 5,581. We preserve that one-candidate discrepancy without speculating about its cause.

Kaplan also issued a correction notice after a rounding error. The official notice states that 175 candidates changed from fail to pass.

July 2026: mean scaled scores were FLK1 291.0 and FLK2 289.2; both papers had a passing score of 300 on the 0–500 scale. First-attempt SQE1 pass rates by degree class were 1st 66%, 2:1 47%, 2:2 22% and 3rd 4% (page 8). Source: SRA July 2026 statistical report, published 29 September 2026.

July 2026 was the last sitting with 180 questions per paper; from January 2027 each paper has 170. Source: SRA assessment update, published 10 September 2026.
